Last weekend I took part in the Wedding themed InspireINK blog hop.
Our Son TJ and his fiancée Hayley are getting married in July 2019 and I made them a Wedding Countdown plaque and an elegant gift box in their wedding colours Black and White.
I wanted to make a plaque that could be re-used after counting down to a special occasion and I came up with this Any Occasion plaque.
I said I would type up a tutorial for the ‘I DO’ plaque but this tutorial gives you all the information for both plaques.

To make the plaques
To make each plaque I used a piece of chipboard/greyboard and some thick white card that were cut to 10″ x 4-1/2″. I had several 12″ x 12″ sheets of chipboard that I bought from Every Crafts A Pound and if I had thought about it I should have cut the chipboard to 10″ x 4″ then I could have got 3 plaques from 1 sheet.
I gave the chipboard pieces a coat of Gesso and then added 3 coats of white acrylic paint.
For the Blackboard Pieces
The chipboard hearts also came from Every Crafts A Pound. I cut a 4-1/2″ x 2″ piece of chipboard from the left over bits for the Any Occasion plaque. I gave them a coat of Mod Podge and then added 3 coats of blackboard paint. You could use the Sweet & Sassy framelits dies to die-cut several hearts and stack them instead. These dies are retiring at the end of the month and I don’t want you to miss out.
The Large Letter Dies were the perfect size for the I DO. I die-cut 3 of each letter in black cardstock and then stacked them.
To work out where to stamp the ‘Days until we say’ I first worked out the placement for the heart and the I DO and then used a T-Ruler and pencil to draw a straight line. I used the Brushwork Alphabet stamp set on both plaques.
Before adhering everything onto the card I gave the cardstock a coat of Mod Podge and left it to dry. *Before I stamped anything onto the cardstock I stamped a couple of the letters onto a scrap of card and left it to dry. When the ink was completely dry I brushed on some Mod Podge to make sure it wouldn’t smear the ink. I also tested this on the Wisteria Wonder and Pear Pizzazz ink.*
I used Tear & Tape to adhere the cardstock to the chipboard. I also used Tear & Tape and some Tombow multipurpose liquid glue to adhere the heart and the I DO to the cardstock, I didn’t want them to fall off. The little black hearts came from the Confetti Hearts Border punch which is now retired.
I used the Spectrum Noir clear shimmer pen on the I DO and the little black hearts.
For the chalk on the ‘I DO’ plaque I added a loop of basic black glimmer ribbon to the bottom of the plaque.
To make the gift box
To make the box for the ‘I DO’ plaque I took into account the chalk which meant I would need to use an A3 sheet of card. If you have A3 card I have included the measurements. The finished dimensions of the Wedding plaque gift box are 10-1/4″ x 5-1/4″ x 1-1/4″.
If the largest size card you have is 12″x12″ I managed to make a box with it but could only make the sides 3/4″ high.
To make the box with A3 cardstock.
Box Base – Cut cardstock a smidge under 12-3/4″ x 7-3/4″. I normally make it 1/16th smaller for both measurements but I know some people don’t like to work in 1/16″. Score at 1-1/4″ on all 4 sides.
Box Lid – 11-3/4″ x 6-3/4″ Score at 3/4″ on all 4 sides.
Matting Layers
White cardstock: 9-3/4″ x 4-3/4″. I embossed this piece using an A4 embossing folder but you don’t need to do this.
Black cardstock: 9-1/8″ x 4-1/8″
White cardstock: 8-7/8″ x 3-7/8″. On this piece I used the heart from the Bloomin’ Hearts thinlits dies to emboss the design onto the cardstock. To do this I set my Big Shot up as if I were embossing (tab 1) and added a silicone mat underneath the cardstock. My sandwich – Big Shot platform on tab 1, cutting plate, silicone mat, cardstock with the die on top of it, 2nd cutting plate.
I die-cut the flowers that are also in the Bloomin’ Hearts thinlits dies, added a small glue dot to the back of each one and adhered them. I added a rhinestone in the centre to hide the glue dot.
To make the box using 12″x12″ card
Because I added ribbons to both sides of the plaque this meant I needed to make this box slightly longer. The finished dimensions of this box are 10-1/2″ x 5-1/4″ x 3/4″. If this isn’t tall enough for your plaque you could add inserts inside the box.
Box Base – Cut the cardstock a smidge under 12″ x 6-3/4″. I normally make it 1/16th smaller for both measurements but I know some people don’t like to work in 1/16″. Score at 3/4″ on all 4 sides.
Box Lid – 11-1/2″ x 6-1/4″ Score at 1/2″ on all 4 sides.
Matting Layers
Patterned DSP 10-1/4″ x 5″
Wisteria Wonder cardstock 8-1/2″ x 3 1/4″
Stamped panel 8-1/4″ x 3″

*When designing a project or when I CASE a project I always use my cheap cardstock to make a prototype before making it with my Stampin’ Up! cardstock. I do check the measurements I add to my blog posts but when typing lots of measurements mistakes can be made. When making any project I recommend making it first with cheap cardstock before using your best cardstock.*
