Aren’t these cards beautiful?
I made them for next weeks 2 Pencil Colour Challenge (#2PencilColourChallenge) but I was so pleased with them I couldn’t wait to share them with you.
My 2 Pencil Colour Challenge is a new weekly series. I challenged myself to use no more than 2 pencils to colour an image and then I make a project incorporating the image. If you missed the cute little frog gift bag in the 1st instalment click here.
There are a few tips in this blog post about using pencils that I hope you will find useful.
I love butterflies and I love colouring even more so the Botanical Butterfly DSP was perfect for me.
Most nights I put my pj’s on, sit in my recliner and colour a couple of stamped images or some DSP. Colouring is therapeutic, I found it really helps me to relax before I get into bed.
When you use pencils you need to build up layers of colour.
So many people make the mistake of using too much pressure when they are colouring. Pressing firmly gives you a darker shade but it prevents you from layering the colour. You also risk breaking the lead too.
Be gentle, build up the layers and you get so many different shades from 1 pencil.
Keep your pencil sharpened and use a good quality pencil sharpener.
Card No. 2 – Red Butterfly
I was going to have Basic Black mats on all of the cards because black and white has that look of elegance and it also made the coloured butterfly really stand out.
For the card below I decided to try something different, I used Pacific Point cardstock for the larger mat and I used some Pacific Point ribbon.

I still have 2 more cards to make with this DSP and I will share them soon.
With gentle pressure and building up the layers I managed to get all the different shades using only 1 pencil on the card below (Prismacolor PC925 Crimson Lake).
