Everything I make with the Springtime Foils DSP looks gorgeous and this hexagonal box is no exception, it looks amazing. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying I’m a great crafter I’m say it’s the DSP that does all the work for you.
The thickness of this DSP is closer to cardstock than DSP and it has beautiful metallic images/patterns in Rose Gold, Silver and Gold. This is one of the free Sale-A-Bration products you can chose with a £45 order (before shipping).
I thought it was about time to get the Window Box dies out and give them a good workout. This box is a great size, it measures 8-5/16″ high x 3-3/4″ across (approx. 21 cms x 9.5 cms).
I have heard so many people say “it’s too beautiful to cut” but you only need 1 sheet of the Springtime Foils DSP to make the box which leaves you with 11 sheets to admire and stroke lol.
When I finished putting the box together I didn’t know how I wanted to decorate it because it wasn’t made for a specific occasion. In the end I decided to silver heat emboss a Just for You sentiment so that it can be used for various occasions. I used the Everyday Label punch to punch the sentiment and a scrap of silver glimmer paper and adhered them using liquid glue. I punched some silver foil leaves and added these to the bottom of the tag.
I tried several ribbons but I really liked the Basic Gray Shimmer Ribbon that’s in the 3/8″ (1cm) Shimmer Ribbon pack. I didn’t want to attach the tag to the box so I attached it to the ribbon with some mini dimensionals.

To make the Box*
To make the box I used 2 pieces of 12″ (h) x 6″ (w) Springtime Foils DSP. When you use the Window Box die you need to die-cut it twice, one for the top and one for the bottom of the box. Stampin’ Up! have a great video showing how to use this die, click here if you would like to see the video. This video is especially helpful if you are using a directional design.
I didn’t take any photo’s whilst making this box so I have added a couple of photo’s showing the partial die-cutting.
Place the hexagonal part of the die at the top of the 1st piece of DSP, line up the cutting pad as shown below and run it through your die-cutting machine, this will partially die-cut it.
Move the die to the bottom of the DSP, line up the cutting pad as shown below and run it through your die-cutting machine.
With the 2nd piece of DSP place the hexagonal part of the die at the bottom of the DSP and partially die-cut it. Move the die to the top of the DSP with the 3 boxes at the top and partially die-cut it. Doing this ensured the pattern was going the same way.
To join up the scorelines I used a stylus and a metal ruler on the back of the DSP.

*When designing a project or when I CASE a project I always use my cheap cardstock to make a prototype before making it with my Stampin’ Up! cardstock. I do check the measurements I add to my blog posts but when typing lots of measurements mistakes can be made. When making any project I recommend making it first with cheap cardstock before using your best cardstock.*
