Last week I shared with you 3 ideas to prettify pencils for craft fairs and stocking fillers and I showed you how to make the 2 easiest projects. Today I have the tutorial for the Santa’s Workshop Pencil Box, I wanted to do a separate tutorial for you because this box is a bit more involved. When making any project I recommend you make it with cheap cardstock first because when someone is typing up lots of measurements mistakes can be made, we are human after all. I do double check my measurements but I have Dyscalculia.

To make the Box
Cardstock: Poppy Parade cardstock 9½” x 5½”.
On the long side score at ½” and 1″, rotate 180° and score at ½” and 1″.
On the short side score at ½”, 2½”, 3″ and 5″.
Fold and burnish all the scorelines.
This is the cutting template for the box.
For the window at the front of the box I used the Everyday Label punch but use what you have in your craft supplies. The easiest way for me to get the right placement for the window was:-
- Punch a label out of Whisper White cardstock.
- Add a little bit of snail to the back of the label, I removed some of the stickiness by tapping my finger on the adhesive several times.
- Place the label on the front of the box where you want your window and then line up the punch with the white label and punch.
I cut a 1¾” x 2-5/8″ piece of Sparkle Glimmer paper and punched another label in the centre and adhered this panel around the window.
I kept all 3 punched labels to use for the tag.
After assembling the box I fussy cut Mrs Claus, from the Santa’s Workshop Speciality DSP, and adhered her to the front of the box with dimensionals.
For the Pencil Holders
Cardstock: 2 pieces of 2½” x 1-7/8″ Poppy Parade cardstock.
On both pieces score the long side at ½”, 1″, 1½” and 2″. Fold and burnish all the score lines.
To work out the placement for the 3 holes you can either judge it by eye or if you’re OCD like me I made a template and measured everything. If you’re making several of these having a template will make the process a lot quicker.
For the Template
This is the easiest way I found to make the template:-
- Cut a piece of scrap cardstock to 2½” x 2″. I cut it at 2″ instead of 1 7/8″ because I didn’t want to mess about measuring sixteenths of an inch.
- Score the long side at ½”, 1″, 1½” and 2″.
- With the long side still at the top of the scoreboard score it at ¾”.
- I then put the cardstock onto my grid paper with the short side at the top and I used a pencil to draw lines at ½”, 1″ and 1½”.
- Where the pencil lines crossed with the 3/4″ scoreline that was where I punched the 3 holes.
- After punching the holes I put the short side of the cardstock at the top of my trimmer and cut 1/16″ off of each end of the 2″ side to make it 2½ x 1-7/8″.
I used a 5/16″ handheld punch for the holes, the 1/4″ punch was a tad too small for the pencils I was using.
I put the holders onto the pencils and then adhered the holders to a strip of Poppy Parade cardstock that measured 1-7/8″ x just under 7-1/2″. This made it easier to get the pencils out, when you opened the box they just slide out.
The Tag
On the Whisper White label I stamped the To: and From: in Memento ink and stamped the Official Seal of The North Pole in 2nd generation Basic Gray ink.
I cut the Sparkle Glimmer paper label in half and adhered to the top and bottom of the Poppy Parade label. This leaves a small gap between the 2 pieces so I covered this with the stamped Whisper White label .
I fussy cut the signpost from the Santa’s Workshop Speciality DSP and adhered it to the front of the tag. There is white flocking for the ‘snow’ on the signpost but the snow on the ground is plain so I added some liquid glue and sprinkled dazzling diamonds over it and put it aside to dry.
