Today’s project is a great way to use up some of those small scraps of ribbon that we have left- over from other projects.
I don’t like to waste anything so when I use my ribbon I tend to keep the off-cuts in a tin I have on my desk. Well this tin was getting quite full and I needed to come up with other ways to use up some of this ribbon. I had made some small bows by tying a piece of bakers twine around the centre of the ribbon but I needed something that would use quite a few scraps at the same time.
I had been using the window box dies to make some hexagonal boxes when I had the idea to use some of the scraps of ribbon as a focal point on the top of the box and have a frame around it. I went through my dies and found a set of nesting hexagonal dies from Xcut which were the perfect size to die-cut the frame.
To Make the Rainbow Ribbon Box
- Die-cut 2 of the Window Box Framelits dies for the top and the base of the box.
- Die-cut another 2 hexagonal lids/bases.
On one of the additional lids/bases I removed all the tabs, covered it with Tear & Tape and adhered the scraps of ribbon in rainbow order. After adding all the ribbon I cut off any excess.
On the other additional lid/base I removed all the tabs and die-cut the frame.
I added some liquid glue to the back of the frame and adhered it on top of the ribbon panel. I adhered the ribbon panel to the lid of the box using some Tear & Tape.
After adding the sentiment I placed the large F block and a couple of punches on top of the ribbon panel and left it to dry overnight.
When I went back to it the following day I assembled the box and then added the ribbon focal piece with some more Tear & Tape. I really like how it turned out and it used quite a few scraps of ribbon. I hope I have inspired you to give it a try.
