Santa’s Jacket Cutlery Holder

When I saw the Black foil sheets in the catalogue my first thought was ‘ooh a shiny black belt for Santa’ and I planned to use it on the Santa’s Jacket notepad holder but I got into crafting mode and forgot all about it. 

This shiny belt idea was still on my mind so I went through my inspiration folder and found the Christmas Table Setting tutorial by France Martin, she has lots of amazing projects on her frenchiestamps.com website.  I couldn’t find a video tutorial on the website and I have made a few changes to her written tutorial.

To prevent costly mistakes whenever I make something I always reach for the cheap card first.  I buy the packs of card that have 100 A4 sheets of 160 gsm card because they work out to 4p a sheet.  I won’t use my Stampin’ Up! card until I know all the cutting and scoring is correct.

You could make a batch of these in no time so they would be great for craft fairs as well as your dining table. 

To Make the cutlery holder you will need:-

• An 8″ x 8″ piece of cardstock.  
• An Envelope Punch Board or something similar.
• A 1-1/8″ x 5-1/8″ strip of Whisper White cardstock.
• A 7/8″ x 10″ strip of Black Foil.
• Gold or Silver Glimmer Paper for the buckle and prong.
• Layering Square Framelits dies or a 1″ and 1¼” square punch.
• Liquid glue and double sided tape.

Optional – 

• An embossing folder for the ‘fur trim’ on the jacket, I have used the Swirls and Curls embossing folder.

To make the Holder

1. Align one of the 8″ sides at 3-1/8″ on the Envelope Punch board, punch and score.
2. Rotate 90° and line up the scored line with the score guide notch, punch and score. 
3. Rotate 90° and line up the scored line with the score guide notch, punch and score. 
4. Rotate another 90°, line up the scored line again and punch, you don’t need to score it this time.  If you are going to add a sentiment this is where you will stamp it, See template.

Fold and burnish the 3 scorelines.  Before adding your adhesive you will need to trim one of the side panels (the larger triangles), line up both of the points of the smaller triangles at 4½” on your paper trimmer and cut, as shown below.

The Merry Christmas sentiment that I chose to use is from the Merry Christmas to All stamp set. I used my embossing buddy before using Versamark to stamp the sentiment and then heat embossed it with White Stampin’ Emboss powder.

 The Fur Trim

• If you choose to emboss the 1-1/8″ x 5-1/8″ strip of white cardstock place it in your embossing folder and run it through your Big Shot using the correct sandwich.
• Add adhesive of your choice and adhere it in the centre of the holder.  I used liquid glue because it gave me a bit of time to move it about until it was straight.
• Trim an excess if necessary. 

To make the Belt and the Buckle

I used the Layering Squares Framelits dies to make the buckle.  I die-cut the larger die first then centred the smaller die on the glimmer paper and die-cut it. 

If you have the 1″ square punch and the Postage Stamp punch from Stampin’ Up! in your craft supplies these are perfect for the buckle.  These are normally my go to punches for belt buckles but because both punches are retired and difficult to get hold of I went with the layering square dies.

• Die-cut or punch the glimmer paper for the buckle. 
• You will have a small square of glimmer paper that is from the centre of the buckle, I used this to cut a narrow strip for the prong. 

Adhering the belt

1. Add a piece of Tear & Tape or something similar to one end of the belt and keep the backing paper on it for now. 
2. Place the Tear & Tape end of the belt it the centre of the white strip of cardstock and fold it around the holder as if you were making a belly band. 
3. If the belt is too long cut it to the preferred length.  When I made the prototype I cut the wrong end, I cut the end that had the Tear & Tape on it by mistake and had to start again.  
4. I rounded the corners and used a 1/8″ handheld punch to add a couple of holes on the belt but you don’t have to do this.  
5. Wrap the belt around the holder again, remove the backing from the Tear & Tape and adhere. 

 Adhering the buckle

1. On the back of the buckle add some strong adhesive to the top and bottom.
2. Feed the belt through the buckle, centre it on the strip of white cardstock and adhere.
3. Add adhesive to one end of the small strip of glimmer paper for the prong, feed it through the hole on the belt and adhere.
