I needed a gift box to put Emma’s Lush bath bomb in and as her favourite colour is purple I made this black and purple butterfly box. I rarely use purple but after making this box I think I should use it more.
Emma and I both love butterflies and there are embossed butterflies on the front panel and the lid (Fluttering embossing folder) and a beautiful purple die-cut butterfly too.
I was sad to see the Fluttering embossing folder is on the retiring list along with all the butterfly dies. There are lots of lovely new products in the 2018/19 Annual catalogue coming in June but I thought butterfly stamps and dies were popular with a majority of crafters or am I wrong?
The large butterfly on the top of the box is called ‘Rare Butterfly’ and it’s from Sizzix (Item No. 661066). I die-cut 2 butterflies in purple and 1 in black cardstock and adhered them with liquid glue. The black die-cut butterfly is slightly offset to give a shadow effect.
To adhere the butterfly to the box I used some mini dimensionals. TIP: Before adhering the butterfly I coloured the edges of the dimensionals with a black marker. The underneath of the butterfly and the embossed panel on the lid are black so colouring the edges of the white dimensionals camouflaged them and in my opinion gave the box a more professional look.
To finish the box I adhered a piece of black satin 3/4″ ribbon around the lid and tied a pretty bow.
I knew Emma would want to keep the box and use it for something else so before I put the bath bomb inside I wrapped it in black tissue paper to protect the box from all the glitter.

*When designing a project or when I CASE a project I always use my cheap cardstock to make a prototype before making it with my Stampin’ Up! cardstock. I do check the measurements I add to my blog posts but when typing lots of measurements mistakes can be made. When making any project I recommend making it first with cheap cardstock before using your best cardstock.*
