I have a HUGE box to share with you today. This Whopper of a box measures 12″ x 3-1/8″ x 3-1/8″ and only needed one sheet of 12″ DSP to decorate it.
When I was on the Hobbycraft website looking at storage boxes I came across some really beautiful Vintage style Glass Bottles. If I filled them with bubble bath or sweets and made some pretty boxes for them they would make inexpensive gifts. This box is also large enough to hold a 75cl bottle of wine.
The bottles also reminded me of the fun times I had with my dad. When I was about 8 or 9 dad and I used to go searching for old bottles, we lived in East Tilbury and the river bank had lots of old bottles and clay pipes.
The glass bottles are 3″ x 3″ x 11-7/8″ and I didn’t have a clue how I was going to make a box for them when the largest cardstock I had was 12″ x 12″. I grabbed my notebook and some cheap cardstock and started working on it.
To decorate the box my original idea was to use the Petal Palette stamp set to hand-stamp a sheet of Whisper White cardstock then cut and layer this onto the DSP. This changed when I put a piece of cardstock onto the DSP to work out what size border I wanted. As soon as I put the cardstock on the DSP I couldn’t handle how much of this pretty DSP would be hidden so I used my Stampin’ Trimmer to cut out a centre panel. Luckily I found this out before stamping a whole sheet of cardstock.
I couldn’t decide whether to have both sides of the DSP showing or stick with the one pattern, after photographing them I decided to stay with the one pattern.
With the beautiful DSP and the Basic Black Shimmer ribbon bow I don’t think the box needs much more decoration. I haven’t made a tag yet because the box could be used for a Birthday, Mother’s Day, thank you etc.

*When designing a project or when I CASE a project I always use my cheap cardstock to make a prototype before making it with my Stampin’ Up! cardstock. I do check the measurements I add to my blog posts but when typing lots of measurements mistakes can be made. When making any project I recommend making it first with cheap cardstock before using your best cardstock.*
