Large 8″ x 8″ Gift Box with unusual Bow

Happy Sunday everyone, I hope you’re having a great weekend and maybe you found some time for crafting.

I really love to make boxes and I hate waste so when my order of 12″ DSP and cardstock arrived I wanted to use it to make a box but not waste any of it.  One of the perks of being a demonstrator is we were able to pre-order the beautiful Dashing Along DSP and I immediately fell in love with the stars design.

You can use any 12″ DSP you have amongst your craft supplies.  You will find all the dimensions to make this box at the bottom of this post.

If you host a Stampin’ Up! party and your sales are £200+ or if you place an order of £200+ you get the Dashing Along DSP for FREE!!

I made an 8″ x 8″ x 2″ box and the only waste was the little bits you cut when you mitre the tabs so I was a very happy lady.  Because this was such a large box I wanted to make a bow to go on the front but I wanted something unusual and this is what I came up with.  Do you like it?

I cut strips of DSP and used the Envelope Punch Board to make bow loops.  For the centre of the bow I found some corrugated shapes and some wooden stars in my embellishment organiser, I used White embossing powder mixed with some Dazzling Diamonds glitter to heat emboss the wooden star.  I coloured the oval with Garden Green Ink so that it coordinated with the box.  If you don’t have the corrugated elements you could die-cut or punch a shape and use the Corrugated Dynamic Textured Impressions Embossing Folder.

I haven’t put a sentiment on the box because I don’t know who it is for yet.  I think this box could be used for any occasion so it will definitely be used soon.

I hope you liked today’s box, if you enjoy my projects subscribe to my blog and receive my projects via email.  All you need to do is add your email address to the subscription link on the right hand side of my website and then confirm your subscription.

Have yourself some crafting fun.

Product List

Dimensions*

Box Base: 12″ x 12″ piece of Garden Green cardstock.  Score at 2″ on all 4 sides, fold and burnish the scorelines.

Box Lid: 12″ x 12″ DSP.  Using a shim (2 pieces of cardstock) score the DSP at 2″ on all 4 sides, fold and burnish the scorelines.  Add thumb notches with a circle punch to make it easier to remove the lid.

Bow: You will need 12 strips of DSP that measure 1″ x 6″.  Align the long side at 3″ in the envelope punch board and punch.  Flip the DSP over, align at 3″ and punch again.  Corner round each corner, fold and adhere to make the loop.  Do this for all 12 strips.

I punched a 1-1/2″ circle in Garden Green cardstock and adhered 6 of the loops towards the edge of the circle using liquid glue.  I then adhered the other 6 loops.  After colouring the oval I adhered it with a couple of dimensionals and added the star with my hot glue gun but you could use glue dots.

For the curls I cut 2 1/4″ strips of DSP and a 1/4″ strip of printer paper, spritzed them with water and  wrapped each strip around my paper piercing tool but you could use a pen or something similar.

If you have any questions please let me know and I will get back to you as soon as I can.

*When designing a project or when I CASE (Copy And Share Everything) someone’s project I ALWAYS make it with some cheap cardstock first. When typing up lots of measurements mistakes can be made, we are human after all. It doesn’t help that I have Dyscalculia. When making any project I recommend making it first with the cheap stuff.*
